Hello and welcome, thank you for visiting my website.
I am a maker specialising in embroidered textiles. Born in Derbyshire, I started working life as a mental health nurse, but after a few years I changed career and worked in the area of rural community development, facilitating art and craft workshops. This is where my new found love of craft started after meeting talented, inspiring, warm and friendly craftspeople and artists. Now living in Durham, married and bringing up three children I tried to make time for myself in between working part time and looking after the children. Over the years I attended local craft courses in all sorts of craft disciplines, but always returned to textiles. Then 16 years ago I was made redundant and decided to take time out and study as a mature student for my Art foundation at Newcastle College of Art and Design, loved it and then went on to gain First Class BA (Hons) Creative Practice, specialising in embroidered textiles. After completing the degree I set up my small business 'Stitching for the soul' designing and making free-motion embroidered textile accessories. Now my children have all grown up and flown the nest and I continue to make and sell and love meeting like minded makers and customers at a variety of makers fairs around the country.
I am most inspired by natural forms and retro designs which come across in my stylised flower landscapes. My work is primarily concerned with colour, composition and quality of workmanship. I would describe what I do as craft as I love producing carefully made pieces. My chief aim is to please the eye and brighten up the homes which take in my work.
Stitching for the soul - because it keeps me busy and happy and I absolutely love listening to soul music, particularly when I'm sewing!
